Type: | Hose Clamp |
Definition: | A hose clamp is a device used to attach and seal a hose onto a fitting such as a barb or nipple. |
Description: | A hose clamp is designed to secure a hose over a fitting, by clamping the hose down, it prevents the fluid in the hose leaking at the connection. Popular attachments include anything from car engines to bathroom fittings. However, hose clamps can be used in a variety of different industries in order to secure the transportation of products, liquids, gases and chemicals. There are four overarching categories of hose clamp; screw/band, spring, wire and ear. Each different hose clamp is used depending on the type of hose in question and the attachment at the end. |
Application: | Hose clamps are designed to secure a hose over a fitting, such as a spigot or barb, acting as a seal to prevent fluid from leaking at the connection. They also stabilize the hose connection. Standard series hose clamps are the most common and are found in vehicle and industrial applications. Minimum clamp diameter is 3/8" and the typical maximum is about 8 7/16". They have 1/2" wide bands and 5/16" slotted hex head screws. |
Others: | The first and most common type of clamp is the stainless hose clamp, made from stainless steel bands and gear. These clamps are also known as bolt clamps or worm clamp. These are very strong and long-lasting and they work best when pressure is over 20 PSI and your goal is to secure poly tubing over barbed fittings. |
